3.6 表對比或讓步的句型

Pattern 1

although / though + S + V…

例：Though a thing has been false a hundred years, it cannot become true.

雖然事情假了一百年，它也不可能變成真的。

說明：

I. though / although 其後的主要子句前不可加對等連接詞 but，但可加同樣表示讓步的副詞，如 nevertheless, still, yet, at any rate, anyhow。

a. Although he is young, but he is sophisticated.(Ｘ)

b. Although he is young, he is nevertheless sophisticated.(○)

雖然年輕，但是他很世故。

I. though (但非although)子句中的動詞或主詞補語或副詞可移到句首。移位後接詞though也可以用as代替。主詞補語如果是單數名詞，移到句首時冠詞要省略。

a. Though malice may darken truth, it cannot put it out.

→ Darken truth though/as malice may , it cannot put it out.

惡意可能使真理暗淡，但不能把它消滅。

b. Though they are solid in build, turtles are never fast swimmers.

→ Solid in build though/as they are, turtles are never fast swimmers.

雖然烏龜體格堅硬，牠們卻游不快。

c. Mr. Lee, though he was a war hero, had gone soft on organized crime.

→ Mr. Lee, war hero though/as he was, had gone soft on organized crime.

李先生雖然是戰爭英雄，但對組織犯罪卻表現得很軟弱。

d. He failed, though he tried hard.

→ He failed, hard though/as he tried.

他雖然努力嘗試，但還是失敗了。
