詞源說明：
1 - 詞源不確定。可能來自 PIE*bhel,膨脹，湧出，形容血的噴湧。該詞在歷史上很長一段時間屬於禁忌詞。
2 - blue blood貴族血統。711年-1492年，摩爾人佔據了西班牙的大部分，只有中北部的卡斯蒂爾王國未淪陷。卡斯蒂爾貴族稱自己有blue blood，是因為他們的白皮膚與靜脈里的血液顏色對比強烈，而摩爾人皮膚顏色深，故血管顏色不明顯。另貴族們因不用在烈日下勞動曬不黑，故也喜歡用blue blood彰顯自己的地位。
