It
is generally assumed that food, clothing and shelter are the basic necessities
of human life. But there is one thing no less important; that is, friendship.
It is safe to say that even the most independent person can hardly live isolated from others. But for
friendship, life would be lonesome and meaningless. Without intimate friends,
whom else can we share our accomplishment, happiness and sorrow with?
When
it comes to close friend, I cannot think of Da-tou, who got this nickname for
his big head. Talking about our long-standing friendship, it can be traced back
to our junior high school days. During that period of adolescence, unlike most other boys, both of us were introverts, reserved and bashful
rather than outgoing and rebellious.
Noise making was certainly foreign to our
nature. Nevertheless, we had much in common. We both took delight in
daydreaming, movie going, reading books on literature and art. At leisure
hours, we went to the theaters or the public library together. As soon as we
finished seeing a movie or reading a novel, a heated discussion or argument
would be followed. By doing so, we motivated
each other to make a research into the works of some major directors, writers
or artists. In a sense, he is my
mentor, and vice versa.
