一.一般用法 :

1.勸服 :

persuade + O.(某人)

例1.

Nothing would persuade him.

(沒有說辭 可 勸服她)

(/說什麼 都不能 勸服她.)

2. 說服 某人 做某事 :

persuade + O.(某人) + to V.(/不定詞)

例2.

He finally persuaded his son

to go to college.

(他終於 說服 他的兒子 上大學.)

二.考試用法:

A. 說服 某人 做某事 : ( into + V.ing )

persuade O.(某人) + into V.ing(/動名詞)

例3.

He persuaded me

into lending him all my savings.

(他 說服我 把所有的存款 都借給了他 .)

但是, 相反地

B. 勸阻 某人 做某事 :

(/說服 某人 停止做某事) :

1.

persuade O.(某人) + out of V.ing(/動名詞)

(或)名詞(某事)

=

2.

dissuade O.(某人) + from V.ing(/動名詞)

(或)名詞(某事)

注意 : 勸阻 (某人) (做某事) :

(/說服 某人 "停止" 做某事)

例4.

I persuaded him

out of his foolish plan.

=

I dissuaded him

from his foolish plan.

(我 勸(了)他 停止 他的愚蠢計畫.)

例5.

He persuaded me

out of conducting the experiment.

=

He dissuaded me

from conducting the experiment.

(他 勸阻我 做那個實驗.)

三.(文語) 使信服, 使同意 :

1.persuade O.(某人) + of O.(某事)

2.persuade O.(某人) + that 名詞子句

例6.

He tried to persuade me

of his innocence.

=

He tried to persuade me

that he is innocent.

(他 設法 使我相信 他是無辜的. )

例7.

She persuaded her son

of the wrong decision.

=

She persuaded her son

that he had made the wrong decision.

(她 使她的兒子 相信 他做了錯誤的決定.)

注意:

動詞 persuade 的意思 是 :

"經勸說(/勸告) 使對方 做某事"

如果 勸說 不成功, 則不可用 persuade ,

應用 過去式 的 try, ( tried ) ;

或 attempt, ( attempted )

cf(/比較) :

1.

He persuaded me

to marry his daughter.

(他 說服了我 娶他的女兒.)

2.

He tried to persuade me

to marry his daughter.

=

He attempted to persuaded me

to marry his daughter.

(他 設法 說服我 娶她的女兒.)

(事實 : " (他) 說服我" , 但是,沒有 成功)

所以 我們再舉一例 :

過去式 的 try(, tried),

或 attempt (, attempted),

後面 接 不定詞(/to V.),

表 "(過去)設法做某事, 但是 沒有成功"

例8.

He killed his rival.

(他 殺死了 他的 情敵.)

但是, 相反地

例9.

He tried to kill his rival.

= He attempted to kill his rival.

(他 設法 要殺死 他的情敵.)

(/注意: 事實上, 沒有成功)

所以 ,

( 自殺 : kill oneself

= commit suicide )

某個人 自殺 好幾次 沒有成功,

要用

tried to kill oneself + 次數,

或

attempted to kill oneself + 次數

例10.

( 他 自殺了 五次.)

不可用

He killed himself five times.(誤)

He committed suicide five times.(誤)

(因為 過去式 的 killed ,

表 (成功) 殺死 , 一次 就 (成功)殺死,

不可能 兩次以上)

(但是 過去式的 tried, 或 attempted,

後面接 不定詞 (/to V.)(/to kill),

表 設法 要殺死, 卻沒有成功,

可加 "次數")

要用

He tried to kill himself five times.(正)

=

He attempted to kill himself

five times.(正)

=

He tried to commit suicide

five times.(正)

=

He attempted to commit suicide

five times.(正)

( 說明: commit : 犯 (罪)

suicide : 自殺(罪) )

另外 特別注意:

例11.

I never persuade him to do it.

意思不是 :

"我 決不 說服他 做這件事."(誤)

而是 :

" 我 勸他 做這件事,

但他總是 不聽勸告. "(正)
